Halfway through 2015 and what a slack blog writer I am!! Truth is I get so busy I forget all about the blog and forum but do try to keep the Facebook page up to date. Of course the web site www.spiderzrule.com is so huge now I would need to be working on it full time to keep the photos up to date on that. So sorry to all the people who have sent in great photos - I promise I will get them up one day!! I have around 30 emails a day at present asking me to ID spiders and just about all of them have photos that are very hard to see the spider in. A lot of the time I can have a good guess as to what they are but the photos certainly aren't good enough to put on the site. SO PLEASE TRY AND SEND CLEAR PHOTOS OTHERWISE IT IS JUST WASTING YOUR TIME AND MINE!!

Happy New Year for 2014
Looks like we skipped a whole year and for some it seems 2013 was not the best year so a good year to skip. I hope 2014 is everything everyone deserves it to be. Spiderzrule got a facelift during 2013, over 200 pages to recreate with a nice new header but I think it was worth it. I like it and I hope everyone else does too as there are some marvellous shots of spiders there. I will continue to answer every email I receive but am finding it harder to ID spiders for people with photos from mobile phones. I know its handy to take a shot with them but spider ID often needs detail to separate one from another and I won't ID a spider if if I'm not certain. It may mean the difference between a serious bite or not if I advise wrongly as to a spiders potential for harm by identifying it incorrectly!!
The Facebook page is also becoming more popular and I try to check it regularly and some other kind people are helping out with ID's from time to time. So keep on viewing and sending them in and most of all developing more of an appreciation of spiders and what they do for our world and their place in it, even if you can't like them!! I still shudder and check my hair for a creepy crawly when I walk through a web even though I know these orb weavers are harmless it is an instinctive behaviour with which we are born I think!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

New Zealand and Japan
Wow, Mother Nature is sure unleashing her power on our poor world. First us with our floods, cyclone and inland tsunami, then New Zealand with its earthquake then worst of all - Japan. Such a beautiful country with its 4000 years of history much of which is now washed away!
And of course now threatened by a worse disaster that could affect us globally with its nuclear reactors threatening the lives of those who are left in that area and the possibility of it spreading even further!!
Is 2012 coming a year early??

Queensland Floods
Happy New Year to all my friends at Spiderzrule. It hasn't been a very happy one here in Queensland with devastating floods taking 20 lives and 12 people still missing over a week later. So many homes completely trashed or just plain wiped away!! It is heartbreaking just to watch, let alone be on of the affected! Luckily I am high on a hill and quite safe and have done my bit to donate to both the Premiers Flood Relief Appeal and the RSPCA whose premises were destroyed in the floods as well. There's a link to the Flood Relief Appeal on Spiderzrule if any of my overseas visitors would care to donate - it would be greatly appreciated!!

A couple of interesting photos are included - in the top one residents returned home to find a cow alive and well on their rooftop and in the second, 2 natural enemies cooperate in a time of crisis with the snake giving the frog a ride through the flood waters!!
Let's hope the rest of 2011 improves greatly!!

Wow, where has the year gone!!
I can't believe I just checked my blog and found I hadn't written anything since last year!! Where has the time gone to?
I have never had so many ID requests as this year and so much time has been spent on updating the web pages with all the great and not so great photos sent in. It's great to hear from so many people and to be able to ID more spiders as I get to recognize more of the thousands of species. It's also great to see so many people with great attitudes to spiders, who don't just stomp on them on sight but take the time to find out about their visitors. These days I refuse to put photos online that have been taken of dead spiders and I am really reluctant to ID spiders people have killed! What's the point once they are dead?
